Delving into the sea outside the Norwegian municipalities Eigersund and Sokndal, Studio ThinkingHand presents an ambitious art project: "Amphibiome." The art project is an equal collaboration between art, science and nature and marks the unique tidal node of the area. As part of an extensive local development plan, the artwork bridges the towns’ unique geology, recognised by UNESCO, and a sustainable future vision. By inviting artists into this transformative space, the two towns seek to enrich their bond with the sea and surrounding vistas.

Collaborating with local divers, marine researchers, and employing diverse local materials - from reclaimed concrete to glass and clay - the artists will submerge five sculptural disks in the sea around the amphidromic point. Seasonal shifts will cloak these creations in maritime biomass, enabling groundbreaking research on regional biodiversity and the industry's environmental impact.

After six months, these sculptures will resurface and find their permanent homes at two coastal sites: in front of Jøssingfjord Science Museum in 2023 and in the heart of Egersund's harbour in 2025, enhancing both as vibrant, inviting communal hubs.

The artists and divers collaborate, ensuring each disk is placed with precision. The video shows how they follow the development and growth of the disks, which are at the bottom of the sea throughout the seasons. After 6 months, they will be lifted up and preserved in the artist's studio.
