Proposal III for the art project The Tidal Node

Magnhild Øen Nordahl has submitted a proposal that specifically addresses what it means that there is no difference between high and low tide and illustrates this scientific abstraction through a relief in different elevation levels. The relief is made of pigmented concrete and will be integrated into the new harbour promenade.

It is an interactive work that activates the water crust through a descent to the sea. It can be used as a yardstick to observe changes in sea level over time.

Through its location, the artwork encourages people to look down into the sea. It makes the viewer ask questions about rising water levels and contains an exciting educational aspect for young people and children. The work creates a nice interaction between nature and people, as it is shaped by both the sea and the people who walk on to the artwork - it can create an exciting point of contact in the city.
