Javier Barrios

Proposal I for the art project The Tidal Node

Javier Barrios has submitted a proposal that is closely related to his general artistic practice. It consists of several sculptural elements, which are concentrated around a large anorthosite rock that goes in orbit around the square, which refers to the moon and the tide. The rock is placed in a groove and can be pushed if you put enough force into it.

The ideas and inspiration behind the proposal draw on the movement and cycles that are the underlying forces behind the quiet tidal node. Around the rock sculpture, there are placed a number of elements, including a rotating amphitheatre inspired by train tracks and the history of the square, and which can be used for holding events on the harbour. The different artistic elements are placed on a coating with a motif inspired by cartography and natural forces.

Barrios has engaged EDIT landscape architects in the project development and held workshops with them on how the area can be developed so that it becomes a place that activates the users and a meeting place for the local community.
