Inauguration - Art project by Studio ThinkingHand marks the lowest tide on earth
Welcome to the official opening of the art at the new Jøssingfjord Science Museum, marking the unique tidal node of the area - the only coastal area on earth with an absence of tidal changes.
On Saturday, April 6, 2024, Dalane Folk Museum and Eigersund Næring and Havn KF invite you to the opening of Studio ThinkingHand's permanent art installation Amphibiome. The first part of the artwork is now set up close to the coastline in front of the Jøssingfjord Science Museum, and the second part will follow at Egersund port in 2025. The work focuses on the world's lowest tide. Off the coast between Sokndal and Eigersund lies an amphidromic point - a zero point in the ocean where the tide equalizes itself. This unique phenomenon has always affected life here, both above and below the sea surface.
For 2 years, Studio ThinkingHand has worked with local divers and marine biologists in the area to explore how maritime habitats are affected by tidal currents, geology, and human interventions. In their work, the artists invite you to follow their journey deep down in the ocean to explore the life here we cannot normally see. Join the opening on April 6 and dive deeper into the art and mysteries of the tide! Here, among other things, you will meet the artists and the diver who contributed to the project.
Welcome!

About Studio ThinkingHand
The artist duo Rhoda Ting (AUS, born 1985) and Mikkel Dahlin Bojesen (DK, born 1988) have established a joint artistic practice, where they seek to renegotiate our relationship with nature. The duo works interdisciplinary and at the intersection between art and science, translating scientific research into tangible artworks. In their practice, they experiment with what can be understood as life and intelligence. The results are presented in sculptures, videos, and installations that remind us that we humans are just one of the Earth's many species. Despite their young age, the duo has already exhibited several site-specific art projects in public spaces in Denmark, Germany, and South Korea - and now also in Norway.
